Representation of the legend of Saint Gallus, as he rewarded the bear with bread, after he has worn wood on the fire. Gallus (lat. the Celt, c. 550 - 640, according to other sources 620 or 646-650) was a monk and missionary, who worked primarily in the Lake Constance region. He is also revered as the founder of the city of St. Gall.
